Testimonies and Gratitudes

A note from a family served at Sparrow House...

an encouraging post...

just some reminders of why our mission is important to our community!

Some notes...

Most of the individuals and families we serve at Sparrow House, have no clue how much we love them and how they impact us.   We have lost many over the years- and although this is a tribute to Peggy- it really is about each one.

The first time we met Peggy, she came riding up on her bicycle as we were unloading the pantry truck.  She was smoking a cigarette and seemed a little "rough around the edges".  She wanted to know how to get food and when, and as we were visiting with her, Joel mentioned to her that it was a non-smoking property.  She was a little gruff about it, but she put her cigarette out and then stayed and visited for a little bit.  She came to the pantry pretty much every Thursday after that to get a box of food and visit.

One day she said, "Can you make sure I don't get no milk, no meat, and no bread? But I do like sweets if you got any! Oh and pears- I love pears."  So from then on, we tried to make sure Peggy had sweets and pears in her box.

We saw Peggy for the Thanksgiving distribution and she passed away a few days later.  We are sad that we never got a picture with her, and she will never know how much she impacted all of us.

We still expect her to walk through the door and we miss her.

One time she mentioned that she liked to come to Sparrow House for the interaction with all of us- other clients and volunteers.

We hope she always left feeling better - with a hug, some care, and some pears...

and maybe something sweet!

Advantage Treatment Centers & Sparrow House Uplifts Lives Through Community Support

Sparrow House: A Beacon of Hope and Transformation

In a heartwarming display of community and support, the Sparrow House recently hosted an inspiring event for Lamar, Co ATC clients. This gathering wasn’t just about providing nourishment; it was a profound spiritual and emotional uplift for all involved.

Uplifting Afternoon: More Than Just Food

The event was marked by an atmosphere filled with prayer and positive messages, turning an ordinary afternoon into a transformative experience. Participants left with more than just physical sustenance; they carried with them a renewed spirit and a deeper sense of community connection.

From Experience to Empowerment: A Visitor’s Tale

Highlighting the event, a former client from the Advantage Treatment Center made a significant journey from Colorado Springs to share his life-changing journey. His testimonial shed light on the profound impact of the support received from both ATC and the Sparrow House, illustrating the powerful transformations that are possible when people come together to uplift one another.

Lasting Impressions: The Ripple Effect of Community Support

The stories shared and the bonds formed during this event exemplify the mission of the Sparrow House—fostering a community that not only supports but also empowers its members. The effects of this afternoon extend beyond the event, inspiring others to contribute and participate in similar acts of kindness and support.

"Little children (believers, dear ones),

let us not love [merely in theory]

with word or with tongue

[giving lip service to compassion],

but in action and in truth

[in practice and in sincerity,

because practical acts of love

are more than words]."
